Bangladesh Courts Wall Street Firms with Open Doors and Strong Ambitions
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman invited Wall Street firms to invest in Bangladesh, touting the country as 'open for business' and a strong platform for regional investors. Speaking at a breakfast meeting hosted by JPMorgan Chase in Manhattan, he emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment for investment.
Bangladesh has a population of over 180 million, with a growing market and strategic location. The Prime Minister highlighted opportunities in energy, infrastructure, logistics, technology, digital services, climate finance, manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare, aiming to build a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2034.
Rahman acknowledged the need for predictability and confidence in business regulations, promising deregulation, stronger investor protection, easier taxes, and improved infrastructure. He also mentioned Bangladesh's efforts to deepen economic ties with major global economies, including a Reciprocal Trade Agreement with the United States and new partnerships with Japan, South Korea, and the European Union.
The Prime Minister invited investors to build long-term partnerships with Bangladesh, stating that his government's objective is 'more investment. More trade. More jobs. More technology. And a stronger economic partnership between Bangladesh and the United States.'
