Bangladesh Defies US Pressure, Buys Boeing Aircraft for Its Own Needs
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir clarified that Bangladesh's purchase of Boeing aircraft is driven by necessity, not pressure from the United States. The country needs a diverse fleet to become an aviation hub, and the government is considering multiple options.
Kabir made this statement in response to journalists' questions during a briefing at the Secretariat on Monday about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to the UN. He mentioned that agreements have been signed to purchase eight Boeing aircraft last April and another 11 during the Prime Minister's visit, totaling 25 aircraft.
Kabir dismissed speculation that the aircraft purchases are aimed at reducing trade deficits with the US. Instead, he emphasized that Bangladesh is buying according to its needs.
