Bangladesh Expands Fleet with Latest Boeing Purchase
Bangladesh is set to expand its national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines' fleet by purchasing 11 more Boeing jets. This comes as part of the country's efforts to strengthen trade ties with the US and reduce its $6 billion trade imbalance.
The agreement, scheduled to be signed in New York on Wednesday, follows a previous deal signed in April for 14 Boeing aircraft worth $3.7 billion. The latest purchase will bring Biman's total fleet expansion to 25 jets, including 10 Dreamliners and four 737 MAX 8 jets.
Biman is renewing its fleet to improve connectivity and expand capacity, with deliveries of the new planes scheduled between 2031 and 2035. The US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent Christensen, hailed the purchase as another 'win-win' for US-Bangladesh relations.
