Bangladesh Officials Served with Legal Notice Over $3.7 Billion Boeing Purchase Deal
A legal notice has been sent to government officials in Bangladesh demanding disclosure of details related to the purchase of 14 Boeing aircraft from the United States.
The notice, addressed to the Cabinet Secretary, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary, Finance Secretary, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines officials, was sent by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister MMG Sarwar Pavel on September 7.
According to media reports, the deal is worth approximately $3.7 billion and has raised concerns over transparency, financial justification, and public interest in light of the country's current economic situation, foreign currency crisis, and inflation.
The notice questions the rationale behind choosing Boeing over Airbus, an alternative proposal, and demands to know whether any financial commitment has been made regarding the purchase. It also calls for an independent feasibility assessment, financial evaluation, and public interest assessment before any new agreement or commitment is made.
