Bangladeshis Flock to Kolkata Hospitals as Visa Restrictions Eased
Kolkata's medical tourism has experienced a significant boost as tourist visas for Bangladeshis have been resumed after two years.
The resumption of regular visa services has led to a surge in medical visa approvals, giving a fresh boost to Kolkata's medical tourism sector.
According to officials, over 1.4 lakh tourist visa applications were received within 24 hours of the resumption of the service.
Major private hospitals in Kolkata have witnessed a significant increase in the arrival of Bangladeshi patients since the restrictions on travel curbs were lifted.
Desun Hospital has recorded a 30%-35% increase in Bangladeshi patient footfall at its Kolkata and Siliguri units, with Sajal Dutta, chairman & managing director, stating that 'the reopening of India's regular visa services has significantly boosted medical tourism from Bangladesh.'
