Banks Get Left Behind as AI-Powered Search Queries Dominate Banking Inquiries
The AI search landscape is evolving rapidly, and banks are struggling to keep up. According to a report from communications firm 5WPR, banks are being outshined by third-party comparison hubs and media outlets in AI-powered banking inquiries.
JPMorgan Chase dominates the scene with 28.4% of consumer banking AI citation share in the U.S., but regional banks are largely invisible. The report found that Bankrate, Investopedia, and Wikipedia supply 68% of all banking-related AI citations, while bank-owned domains account for less than 7%.
This is because these websites provide comprehensive, frequently updated comparison content, clear schema markup, strong domain authority, and a format built to directly answer specific questions. Banks, on the other hand, often rely on marketing language that AI engines ignore in favor of concrete information.
