Bayer Invests $2.2 Billion in New Ohio Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Campus
Bayer has announced plans to build a massive $2.2 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing campus in New Albany, Ohio. The project, unveiled on October 2nd, will create approximately 600 permanent jobs once operational, along with 1,500 construction jobs during its development. The campus will span 200 acres within the New Albany International Business Park and will be designed to produce both active drug ingredients and finished pharmaceutical products. Bayer expects the first module, focused on drug substance manufacturing, to be operational by 2031, with a second module for drug product manufacturing following in 2034.
The facility will support Bayer's key drug lines, including treatments for cancer, heart disease, and kidney conditions. Over the past five years, Bayer has invested over $7 billion in U.S. pharmaceutical research and manufacturing, demonstrating its commitment to expanding domestic production. The New Albany International Business Park already hosts several life sciences companies, including Amgen, Hims & Hers, and Pharmavite, which together employ over 2,660 people in the area.
Bayer plans to collaborate with the Ohio Life Science Training Center, set to open in summer 2027, to train biomanufacturing operators and technicians. The center is being funded with up to $30 million from JobsOhio, along with additional contributions from the City of New Albany, the State of Ohio, and The New Albany Company. Bayer CEO Bill Anderson emphasized that the new site will enhance the company's ability to deliver innovative medicines both domestically and internationally.
