Benioff Demands AI Firms Shoulder Responsibility for Tech Risks
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has been a vocal advocate for corporate responsibility and accountability. In 2024, he made a significant donation of $150 million to two Hawaii hospitals, described as the largest healthcare donation in the state's history.
The funds were earmarked for improving access to care and addressing infrastructure needs at the two facilities.
In a recent keynote speech at Salesforce's Dreamforce conference, Benioff emphasized the need for AI companies to take responsibility for the risks created by their technology.
'We know we have to hold companies responsible for their products and their technology before people are hurt,' he said, referencing the Hawaiian concept of kuleana, or personal responsibility.
Benedict tied this approach to his own connection with Hawaii, where he has been a resident since making the $150 million donation. He also pointed out that AI companies have access to knowledge about their own products and technology, making it essential for them to act proactively rather than reactively.
