Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase Bet Big on Housing Rebound
Berkshire Hathaway's recent investment in homebuilder Taylor Morrison has sparked interest in the housing market. The company, led by Greg Abel, acquired the business for $6.8 billion and will incorporate it into its site-built construction business, Clayton Properties Group.
This move comes as JPMorgan Chase committed to investing $750 billion in affordable housing across multiple areas. The bank aims to help build or preserve 1 million affordable housing units and aid 500,000 customers in purchasing homes by 2035.
Despite high mortgage rates, which have been a double-edged sword for lenders, JPMorgan Chase believes that investing in more affordable housing can boost originations and lower default rates. This could lead to a general boost in the housing market, benefiting the bank's home lending business.
