Berkshire Hathaway Shifts Focus with Alphabet Investment
Greg Abel has been at the helm of Berkshire Hathaway for nearly three quarters now, but so far his tenure as CEO has been marked by a gradual rather than radical shift in strategy.
The most notable move under Abel's leadership has been the company's purchase of Alphabet stock, which is now a top-five portfolio position for the conglomerate, accounting for roughly 10.5% of its total public holdings between class A and class B shares.
This investment in Alphabet aligns with Berkshire's past approach to technology holdings, as seen during Warren Buffett's tenure when Apple accounted for over 50% of its total public stock holdings at one point.
Berkshire's portfolio is now heavily concentrated around tech, with two companies - Alphabet and Apple - accounting for roughly 31% of the company's total stock holdings. This could suggest that Abel may direct Berkshire to increase its holdings in other dependable and highly profitable tech leaders.
