Berkshire Hathaway's Abel Reveals Alphabet Stake, Tokio Marine Purchase
Berkshire Hathaway's second-quarter 13F filing is due on Friday and will provide insight into CEO Greg Abel's reshaping of the conglomerate's equity portfolio. The filing marks only the second quarterly disclosure under Abel's leadership.
The biggest confirmed investment during the quarter was Berkshire's purchase of at least $10 billion worth of Alphabet stock as part of Google parent's equity fundraising tied to its AI infrastructure spending. This brought Berkshire's stake in Alphabet to about 86 million shares, which could push it close to 100 million shares by the end of June.
Berkshire also disclosed purchases of nearly $2 billion in Japanese insurer Tokio Marine and more than $1 billion of additional investments in the Japanese trading companies in which it already owns significant stakes. The conglomerate's second-quarter filing showed more than $23 billion of equity purchases overall, leaving roughly $7 billion of investments yet to be identified.
