US Senator Bernie Sanders criticized Amazon founder Jeff Bezos over his wealth and spending habits. In a recent post on X, Sanders pointed out that Bezos owns a $500 million yacht, Koru, which he took to his $55 million wedding in Venice last year. The couple's three-day wedding drew attention for its lavish nature, with estimates suggesting it cost between $40 million to $50 million.

Sanders argued that under his proposed 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires, Bezos would owe an additional $12.7 billion in taxes. This tax would still leave Bezos with a net worth of approximately $240 billion. Sanders' proposal aims to raise $4.4 trillion over a decade from the 938 billionaires it targets.

Bezos has pushed back against the idea that taxing billionaires more would solve broader economic problems. In an interview, he stated, 'don't pretend that that's gonna solve the problem.' Bezos also suggested that the bottom half of earners contribute only about 3% of taxes and should pay zero federal income tax.
