Bernstein Reiterates Merck Stock Rating Amid KRAS Deal Activity
Merck's stock rating has been reiterated by Bernstein SocGen Group, who maintain a Market Perform rating and $105.00 price target on the shares.
The pharmaceutical giant, with a market capitalization of $366.6 billion, has seen exceptional returns of nearly 95% over the past year. However, its current share price of $148.36 is just 5% below its 52-week high of $156.92.
Merk's recent licensing agreement for a KRAS inhibitor, SPR2015, from private company SciBrunch has been seen as a significant move in the therapeutic area. The exclusive, global license covers the early-stage compound targeting the G12D mutation and includes a $400 million upfront payment as part of a total potential value of up to $2.13 billion.
According to Bernstein analyst Courtney Breen, the acquisition likely eliminates potential deals between Merck and Revolution Medicines or Erasca, and is 'meaningfully derisked mechanistically'. The relative success of on-only mechanisms versus on/off mechanisms may shape the accessible market in pancreatic and lung cancer indications.
