Bessent Faces Scrutiny Over Unreported JPMorgan Stock
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent faced scrutiny after it was discovered he did not properly report his husband's JPMorgan Chase stock on his annual personal financial disclosure statement.
The stock, valued at between $100,000 and $250,000, was classified as cash held in a deposit account at an unidentified U.S. bank during Bessent's Senate confirmation process, but the error wasn't caught until July 2025.
When Bessent became aware of the mistake, his spouse immediately divested the JPM stock on July 14, and Bessent paid a $200 late filing fee for not reporting the sale within the required time frame.
The Treasury Department's inspector general found no 'knowing violation' of federal ethics laws and concluded that Bessent was not aware of this ownership.
