Bezos' Amazon Proves Business Growth Trumps Volatile Stock Price
Jeff Bezos' Amazon went public in 1997, amidst the dot-com bubble. However, the company's stock price plummeted to around $6 from its peak of $113 during the dot-com crash of 2000.
Besides the stock price, Bezos remained focused on growing the business rather than propping up the volatile share value. He cited that Amazon had a clear competitive edge and repeat customers, which are key to longevity.
Bezos drew inspiration from Warren Buffett, who said that 'in the short run, the market is a voting machine but in the long run, it is a weighing machine.' Bezos acknowledged that he was building a heavy company that would eventually weigh the scales down and reflect its full value.
