Bezos Holds onto Massive AMZN Stake Amid Stepped-Down CEO Role
Jeff Bezos, Amazon's (AMZN) founder and former CEO, still holds significant stakes in the company despite stepping down from his role. According to Amazon's May 2026 proxy statement, Bezos owned approximately 950 million shares of AMZN.
This equated to about 8.8% of the company at the time. However, he has since sold and donated millions of shares, as seen in his latest SEC filing.
As of August 26, 2026, Bezos owned approximately 879.3 million Amazon shares, valued at $219.2 billion based on AMZN's September 2026 share price of $249.27.
Bezos remains Amazon's largest individual shareholder. Current CEO Andrew Jassy holds roughly 2.25 million shares, or a 0.02% stake in the business, worth approximately $562.3 million.
