Bezos Unloads $4 Billion in Amazon Stock Amid Company's Rapid Growth
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has filed documents indicating he plans to sell up to 15 million shares of his company's stock, worth over $4 billion at current market prices.
The sale is part of a prearranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plan established last year, which prevents insiders from trading on nonpublic information.
Despite Bezos' decision to sell some of his Amazon shares, the company's outlook remains bright. Its retail operations are firing on all cylinders, with revenue climbing about 16% year over year across its North American and International segment in the second quarter.
The core of Amazon has become its cloud computing unit, Amazon Web Services (AWS), which saw revenue accelerate for the fifth straight quarter, climbing 37% year over year. AWS operating margin expanded to 39.4% in the most recent quarter.
