Bezos's $4 Billion Amazon Sale Was Planned Months Before Earnings Beat
Jeff Bezos's plan to sell 15 million Amazon shares worth $4.07 billion was set in motion eight and a half months before the sale actually took place, according to recent filings with the SEC.
The sale was executed through a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan, which allows corporate insiders to prearrange future stock sales in advance. Bezos adopted this plan on November 14, 2025, long before either Amazon's strong earnings or its market value crossing $3 trillion.
Despite the sale, Bezos remains one of Amazon's largest shareholders and has also donated shares to nonprofit organizations in the past. The stock sale was tied to a record close, with Morgan Stanley selling the shares at an average price tied to that closing price on Monday.
