Big Tech Reacts to White House AI Safety Accord
Big Tech shares moved in response to a White House AI safety accord signed by major industry leaders, including Sundar Pichai of Alphabet and Mark Zuckerberg of Meta Platforms.
The voluntary agreement outlines four layers of controls and audits for companies developing frontier models, but it carries no formal enforcement mechanism. Trump called the accord 'almost like a constitution,' although he described it as 'morally binding.'
Alphabet's stock surged 3% to $348 after the signing, while Apple shares gained 2.5%. Meta Platforms' stock slipped 0.3%, however.
The agreement has added a policy dimension to the ongoing AI narrative, and Alphabet's AI infrastructure investments and cloud backlog remain key variables for investors tracking long-term returns on capital.
