Billy Joel's Rep Denies Singer's Death After Google Error
Billy Joel's publicist has denied speculation about the singer's death after Google users were mistakenly led to believe he had passed away. The error occurred on September 17, a week after Joel revealed he had undergone brain surgery for the condition normal pressure hydrocephalus.
The 77-year-old musician discussed his health on SiriusXM's The Billy Joel Channel on September 9, reassuring fans that he was not going anywhere and was still alive. He explained that he initially resisted his medical team's recommendation to undergo surgery but eventually agreed after reading about the benefits of a shunt implantation.
Joel canceled his scheduled stadium shows in 2025 and 2026 due to his diagnosis, which affects balance, hearing, vision, and memory. He returned to performing in January by joining a cover band in Florida for two songs.
