Biman Bangladesh Airlines Eyes 10 Airbus Jets to Expand Fleet
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is in negotiations to purchase 10 Airbus aircraft as part of its strategy to expand and diversify its fleet. The proposed deal includes four A350-900 wide-body jets and six A321neo narrow-body planes. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat emphasized that the decision is driven by operational needs rather than geopolitical factors.
The move follows Biman’s recent agreement with Boeing to acquire an additional 11 aircraft. Signed on September 23 in New York, this agreement adds to the 14 aircraft already contracted under a deal finalized on April 30. The total Boeing order now stands at 25 aircraft, including 15 wide-body and 10 narrow-body jets. The first delivery is scheduled for November 2031, with the last expected by 2035. However, the government has requested earlier deliveries, aiming for at least one aircraft by 2027-28.
Millat noted that the additional Boeing aircraft will be purchased at the same price agreed in the April 30 contract. The airline’s fleet expansion reflects its ambition to increase its market share in Bangladesh’s air travel sector while maintaining a balanced mix of aircraft types.
