Biman Bangladesh Airlines finalizes $2 billion Airbus aircraft deal
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is finalizing a major deal with Airbus to acquire 10 new aircraft, marking a significant step in its fleet expansion. The agreement, set to be signed today (7 October) at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden, includes four Airbus A350-900 widebody aircraft and six A321neo narrowbody jets. The package, valued at over $2 billion, aims to bolster Biman's long-haul and regional network capabilities.
The signing ceremony, titled "Spreading Our Wings Together," will feature key officials including Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Airbus India and South Asia President Jürgen Westermeier. The deal concludes months of negotiations, with no major outstanding issues remaining between the two parties.
This Airbus purchase complements Biman's existing Boeing aircraft acquisition program, which now covers 25 aircraft following recent agreements. The combined fleet expansion plan totals 35 new aircraft, comprising 19 widebody and 16 narrowbody jets, set to be delivered between 2027 and 2035. The first Boeing aircraft is scheduled for delivery in November 2031.
With this expansion, Biman is undertaking one of the largest fleet upgrades in its history, significantly increasing its capacity for both domestic and international operations.
