Biman Orders More Boeing Aircraft for Growth and Renewal Program
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has placed an order for 11 more Boeing aircraft as part of its growth and renewal program. The new order includes five 787-10 Dreamliners, which can carry up to 375 passengers, and six 737-8s.
The additional 787-10s will increase the size of Biman's Dreamliner fleet and provide a higher-capacity option alongside its existing smaller 787-8 and 787-9 variants. The 737-8s will offer greater range than the previous generation of aircraft, potentially giving Biman more flexibility to reach further into Asia, the Middle East or Europe.
Biman's chairman, Rumee Hossain, said the latest purchase was based on the airline's fleet planning requirements and would support its network development. The new aircraft will improve operating economics as older aircraft leave the fleet, with Boeing stating that both the 787 and 737 MAX families offer fuel-efficiency improvements of around 20-25% compared to their predecessors.
