Bluey Ditches Traditional Animation for CGI in Upcoming Theatrical Debut
Disney's beloved animated series Bluey is making a significant change in its visual identity. The show, which has been a global phenomenon since its debut on Disney+, will swap its traditional 2D animation for computer-generated imagery (CGI) when it hits theaters next year.
The decision to switch to CGI was announced last month with the release of the first teaser trailer for The Bluey Movie (2027), which is set to arrive in theaters on August 6, 2027. While some fans have expressed excitement about the change, others are expressing concern that it may alter the show's signature look and feel.
According to Inside the Magic, the decision to switch to CGI was made to create a more immersive experience for viewers on the big screen. However, this move has sparked debate among fans, with some arguing that the 2D animation is an essential part of Bluey's charm.
The original creative team behind Bluey remains involved in the production, with creator Joe Brumm writing and directing The Bluey Movie (2027), and Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack reprising their roles as Chilli and Bandit. Ludo Studio and BBC Studios are also continuing to work on the film.
