BNP Paribas Pivots to Google Cloud in Bid to Boost Efficiency
BNP Paribas (ENXTPA: BNP) has announced a five-year partnership with Google Cloud to expand its access to AI tools and infrastructure. The collaboration aims to enhance internal workflows, manage security and data governance in a multi-cloud setup, and potentially shift the cost and productivity profile of core corporate and retail banking activities.
The partnership highlights how BNP Paribas is leaning on external cloud and AI capabilities to improve efficiency and tackle structural challenges such as a high cost base and exposure to digital-only competitors. However, execution risk remains a concern due to complex agentic AI inside sensitive banking systems that raises governance, security, and integration hurdles.
BNP Paribas' narrative projects €61.0b revenue and €16.4b earnings by 2029, assuming 6.0% yearly revenue growth and an earnings increase of €3.6b from €12.8b today. The partnership with Google Cloud is seen as a key operational catalyst that could help the bank execute well and tackle its structural challenges.
The fair value estimates for BNP Paribas cluster between about €106.5 and €120.0 per share, reflecting recent management changes and the Google Cloud AI rollout at the bank. This shows a tight but meaningful spread in expectations, allowing investors to stress test their own scenarios and compare with alternative viewpoints.
