BNP Paribas Taps Google Cloud for AI-Driven Growth in Eurozone
BNP Paribas has partnered with Google Cloud to expand its access to AI models and infrastructure. The five-year agreement aims to deploy agentic AI across various functions, including corporate credit analysis, sales, trading, research, and customer service.
The partnership ties BNP Paribas' AI program directly to quantified value creation targets, linking Gemini-powered agents to specific objectives in revenue generation, cost efficiency, and risk management. This move is seen as a key step towards increasing the bank's profitability and competitiveness in the Eurozone market.
However, analysts point out that execution risks are high, with the need for staff to adopt the tools quickly and integrate them tightly with risk controls and existing systems. BNP Paribas also faces challenges from higher bad loan levels and a relatively high-risk funding mix.
