BNP Paribas Ties $853M Value Creation Goal to Google Cloud Deal
BNP Paribas has announced a five-year deal with Google Cloud that will give it access to advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The French banking group estimates the partnership will generate $853 million in value creation, although this figure is not fixed and will be reviewed by a finance committee.
The bank views AI as a key driver of revenue and cost savings, with projects tied to specific financial targets. Early deployments focus on BNP Paribas's corporate and institutional banking business (CIB), where 65,000 employees have been given access to AI technology for tasks such as credit memo generation and improving know-your-client processes.
The agreement comes four months after BNP Paribas inked a deal with Mistral AI to design and develop generative AI offerings. The bank's group chief information officer, Marc Camus, noted that this partnership is part of the bank's ongoing efforts to implement process automation and potentially reduce headcount in some areas.
