The Boeing 737-7 has finally received certification from the FAA after a seven-year delay. The aircraft was originally slated for approval in 2019 but faced numerous setbacks, including crashes, engine flaws, and quality control reviews. To address these issues, Boeing underwent redesigns to its LEAP-1B engines and cockpit alerts.

The certification comes after multiple incidents, including post-2019 crash reforms, 2021 engine overheating issues, and a 2024 Alaska Airlines door plug incident. The FAA emphasized rigorous testing across flight controls and human factors.

Southwest Airlines remains the launch customer with over 300 orders for the 737-7. Designed for a range of 3,800 nautical miles and seating 135-160 passengers, the aircraft is expected to play a role in airlines' fleet modernization efforts.
