Boeing 737 MAX 10 Certification Delayed Over Software Bug
US air safety regulators have delayed certification of the Boeing 737 MAX 10 due to a software bug that can cause an automated navigation feature to fail during landing. The glitch, which was discovered through a cockpit software update, affects pilots' workload and may require them to handle the situation manually.
The issue arises when pilots alter their preprogrammed flight plan after a missed approach, according to Boeing. Despite this, pilots are trained to safely land planes without automated navigation, but regulators must evaluate whether this scenario poses an excessive workload for them.
Shares of Boeing dropped 6.9% on Monday as the company's CEO had previously predicted certification would be achieved 'very soon.' The FAA is working closely with Boeing and airlines to address the issue, which Boeing engineers are actively updating to resolve.
