Boeing 737 MAX Software Glitch Cleared for Approval
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has cleared the Boeing 737 MAX software glitch, stating that it poses no safety concern. This decision allows for the approval of a larger version of the best-selling narrow-body jet, the MAX 10.
The FAA's Corrective Action Review Board determined that pilots retain full control of the aircraft and receive clear and unambiguous indications during an unusual landing scenario. The software glitch could have prevented pilots from accessing automated flight guidance.
Boeing will continue to follow the lead of the FAA as its engineers work on a new software update. The company is also working directly with airlines to formalize a procedure that allows pilots to re-enable automated vertical navigation in case of an emergency landing attempt.
