Boeing 737 MAX Software Glitch Raises Safety Concerns

Boeing has identified a software glitch in its 737 MAX that can disable an automated navigation function during landing after a missed approach. The issue emerged after a cockpit software update and may occur when pilots change their planned flight path, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The company notified operators of the problem in late August, stating it did not pose a safety risk. However, Boeing is now working on a software fix and procedure for pilots to restore the automated function if necessary.

Southwest Airlines and United Airlines have asked Boeing not to deliver new 737 MAX aircraft with the affected software, instead opting for an earlier version. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the issue and will take action if needed, a senior agency official said.
