Boeing 737 MAX Software Glitch Raises Safety Concerns

A software glitch has been discovered in Boeing's 737 MAX aircraft that could disable automated flight guidance during an aborted landing.

The issue, which affects pilots' ability to use autopilot functions during a go-around, has prompted safety concerns and raised questions about the workload of flight crews.

According to the FAA, the glitch was identified by Boeing in November 2024, but it did not initially meet the company's criteria for a safety review. After receiving feedback from airlines, Boeing began a formal safety review this month and shared its findings with the FAA.

The FAA has confirmed that it is working closely with Boeing and airlines to expedite a fix, which is expected by early 2028. In the meantime, some airlines have refused to accept new aircraft with the flawed software.
