Boeing 757-200 Edges Out Tu-214 in Key Characteristics
The Tu-214 and Boeing 757-200 are two narrow-body medium-haul aircraft that compete on air routes. Both have similar size, weight, and passenger capacity.
A comparison of these airliners based on five key characteristics shows that the Boeing 757-200 has a greater margin in passenger capacity, with up to 239 people in a dense single-class configuration or about 200 in a typical two-class layout. This gives it an advantage over the Tu-214's maximum of approximately 210 passengers.
The Tu-214, however, can carry up to 25.2 tons of commercial payload, surpassing the Boeing 757-200's figure of about 22.6 tons by around 2.6 tons. This makes it suitable for cargo-passenger flights without increasing the maximum takeoff weight.
The range of both aircraft is comparable, with the Tu-214 reaching approximately 6500-6700 km and the Boeing 757-200 covering up to 7200-7250 km. However, this difference in range becomes significant for routes where an intermediate stop is not possible.
