Boeing 777X Engine Fix Uninterrupts Certification Timelines
GE Aerospace has resolved a critical issue with its GE9X engine, which powers the Boeing 777X. The problem arose when cracks were found on a flight-test engine during testing. To address this flaw, GE redesigned the mid-seal located between high-temperature turbine stages.
The redesign was made without halting certification for the aircraft. Flight tests continue as planned, with Boeing aiming to deliver the 777X in 2027. The updated seal will be included in early customer engines and production units.
Boeing confirms that flight testing remains uninterrupted, and certification timelines remain intact. This is because the flaw was isolated to test hardware under extreme conditions.
