Boeing 777X Set to Replace Airbus A380 on Dense Routes
Airlines are shifting away from the four-engine Airbus A380 on dense routes due to its high maintenance and fuel costs. The Boeing 777X, a twin-engine widebody, is emerging as a popular replacement, offering better fuel efficiency and lower operating costs.
The first 777X deliveries are now expected in 2027, with Emirates and other carriers ordering the aircraft alongside the Airbus A350-1000 to replace aging A380s. The Boeing 777X targets a 400-seat capacity with lower trip costs than its predecessor.
The move is significant as it may lead to fewer A380 flights on long-haul routes after 2027, replaced by quieter and more fuel-efficient twins. This could make booking premium cabins on high-density routes more competitive for travelers.
