Boeing 777X vs Airbus A350-1000: Which Twin-Engine Giant Will Reign Supreme?
The Boeing 777X is finally nearing commercial service after years of delays, while its competitor, the Airbus A350-1000, has already been flying passengers worldwide.
The 777X family comprises two models: the larger 777-9 and the smaller 777-8. The 777-9 measures 76.7 meters in length, while the A350-1000 is slightly shorter at 73.8 meters. Boeing claims that the 777-9 has a typical capacity of 375-400 passengers in two-class configuration, compared to 375 in three-class for the A350-1000.
The 777X offers improved efficiency and range compared to its predecessor. Boeing says it will use 20% less fuel and produce 20% lower emissions than the aircraft it replaces, with a 40% smaller noise footprint and 10% lower operating costs. The 777X also features a composite wing and GE Aerospace's GE9X engines.
The A350-1000 has already gained extensive operational experience and is considered a proven aircraft. However, the 777X offers airlines flexibility with its choice of range or capacity, making it an attractive option for high-demand routes where capacity is crucial.
