Microsoft Engineer Laid Off for Being 'Too Young' Sparks Industry Debate
A Microsoft software engineer in Hyderabad has sparked an online debate after sharing his experience of being laid off due to his age, not his performance. The engineer, with about three years of experience at Microsoft, said his manager assumed he had fewer personal responsibilities because he was relatively young.
The employee is the sole earner for his family and financially supports his parents, contributes to his sister's education, and helps repay a loan taken by his father.
He argued that this assumption did not match his circumstances and that he should be considered based on his skills and experience. The engineer now seeks new opportunities as a Software Engineer II or Software Engineer at large technology companies, startups, and businesses in other sectors, open to relocation and freelance or contract work.
