Boeing 787 Electrical Systems Under Scrutiny After Air India Crash
Air India flight AI171 crashed just after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, resulting in the deaths of all 242 people on board and 19 on the ground. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, registered as VT-ANB, was operating a scheduled service to London Gatwick.
The pilots' union has requested a detailed investigation into the electrical systems of the aircraft, citing concerns over the advanced architecture and potential for chronic failures. The Foundation for Aviation Safety (FAS) has provided the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) with hundreds of documents relating to the crash, which it claims contain evidence of systemic problems.
The AAIB has not disclosed specific findings from the probe, but says investigators have conducted a thorough examination of technical, operational, and human factors associated with the accident. The pilots' union is seeking a comprehensive evaluation of electrical-system evidence and safety recommendations based on the investigation's findings.
