Boeing 787 Electrical Systems Under Scrutiny After Fatal Crash

The safety of passengers on Boeing 787 flights is under scrutiny due to concerns about the aircraft's electrical systems. The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has urged the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to broaden its investigation into the electrical systems following a tragic crash in Ahmedabad that claimed 260 lives.

The FIP wants a comprehensive audit of the Dreamliner's entire electrical ecosystem, inspecting power generation and distribution frameworks, main and standby battery configurations, integrated modular avionics, and flight-control computers. Investigators are being pushed to scan for subtle issues such as voltage fluctuations, unexpected data resets, processor reboots, communication blackouts, or erroneous fault messages.

The federation is also pushing authorities to cross-examine historical maintenance data for the aircraft involved in the crash, including technical logbooks and repetitive system faults. The goal is to determine if previous component replacements were treating the root cause of an electrical glitch or just masking a deeper system flaw.
