Boeing 787 Pilots Urge Comprehensive Evaluation of Electrical Systems After Fatal Crash
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has written to India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) requesting a thorough examination of the electrical systems on Boeing 787 planes. This follows the fatal crash of an Air India aircraft last year, which killed 260 people.
The FIP claims that evidence of chronic system failures has been shared with the probe agency and is urging a comprehensive evaluation of all electronic components. The pilots' body wants the AAIB to conduct a detailed examination of electrical generation, power distribution, avionics integration, data-network performance, software functionality, and system reliability.
The request comes after the US-based Foundation for Aviation Safety (FAS) questioned India's AAIB on why it had not issued interim safety recommendations for the B787 fleet despite holding evidence of chronic system failure. The FIP suggests that a comprehensive evaluation is crucial for determining the cause of the accident.
