Boeing and Airbus Engage in High-Stakes Competition for Biman Fleet Upgrade
Dhaka-based Biman Bangladesh Airlines is in the midst of upgrading its fleet, and two major aerospace manufacturers are vying for the contract. The state-owned flag carrier has already agreed to purchase 14 aircraft from Boeing at a cost of $3.7 billion.
The deal, worth approximately Tk 454.08 million, will see Boeing deliver the planes in stages between 2031 and 2035. Biman currently operates 19 aircraft, with 14 being Boeing models.
Airline officials suggest that the airline may acquire an additional 11 aircraft from Boeing, increasing the total to 25 new planes by 2040.
Despite securing the initial agreement, Airbus remains actively engaged in discussions to sell at least ten aircraft to Biman. French Ambassador to Dhaka Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet confirmed that negotiations between European negotiators and Bangladeshi authorities are ongoing.
