Boeing Balances Wins and Risks Amid Mixed Investor Sentiment
Boeing (BA) has been in the spotlight recently, juggling major wins and lingering risks that have kept investor sentiment mixed. One key development was the averted engineers' strike, as SPEEA narrowly approved a sweetened contract. This decision removed a significant overhang for Boeing's production schedule and reassured investors.
The company also strengthened its long-term revenue pipeline on the defense side. The U.S. Air Force ordered four MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters in an $85 million deal, while the U.S. Navy awarded Boeing a landmark contract to build its sixth-generation F/A-XX fighter.
Boeing's space business received a lifeline as NASA scheduled an uncrewed Starliner flight to the ISS by December, with crewed flights pushed out to 2028 and extra agency support aimed at keeping Boeing as a viable astronaut transport option. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump posted an unusually effusive endorsement of the 737 MAX on Truth Social.
Despite these wins, Boeing remains under pressure from production issues on the 737 MAX and software glitches that have unnerved the market. Its long-delayed 777X program still faces strike-related risk if labor talks sour again. Analysts maintain a Strong Buy rating on Boeing with average price targets near $272 per share, implying upside of roughly 41%-46%.
