Boeing Cleared to Produce More 777Fs Amid Production Challenges

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved Boeing's application to produce 35 additional 777Fs after December 31, 2027. This decision comes as a result of the FAA implementing standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 2017, which limit emissions and noise pollution.

The original production deadline for the 777F was next year, but Boeing will now be able to continue producing the aircraft beyond that date. The move is seen as a potential boon for FedEx, which has been mentioned as a possible buyer of more 777Fs.

However, Boeing faces several challenges in continuing production of the metal wing freighter. The development of the new-generation 777-8F has been delayed, and some customers are pushing for Boeing to delay deliveries of the -9 passenger model so that it can focus on delivering more passenger models.

The certification of the 777-9 is now expected next year, seven years after its original goal in January 2020. This delay will likely have an impact on Boeing's production schedule and may lead to further challenges for the company.
