Boeing Closes In On Malaysia Airlines' 787 Order

Malaysia Airlines is close to ordering ten Boeing 787-10s to replace its seven leased Airbus A350-900s. The move would bring Boeing back into the carrier's widebody fleet for the first time since it retired the 777 a decade ago.

The airline has been looking to replace its leased A350s due to high leasing costs, and had considered several options including the Airbus A350-1000, Boeing 787-9, and 787-10. Boeing's offer of earlier delivery slots starting in 2031 likely tipped the scales in their favor.

The 787-10 would not only replace the A350s but also provide Malaysia Airlines with additional long-haul capacity and potentially open up new routes or higher frequencies on existing services.
