Boeing Completes Final O3b mPOWER Satellites for SES
Boeing has completed manufacturing and delivering the final three O3b mPOWER satellites to SES, marking the successful conclusion of their initial 13-satellite constellation. This historic milestone solidifies the long-term strategic partnership between Boeing and SES.
The delivery of these satellites allows SES to significantly increase its medium Earth orbit (MEO) network capacity, enabling it to successfully transmit digital data and deliver uninterrupted global broadband. According to Xavier Bertran, chief product and innovation officer of SES, 'The performance we are seeing from the 10 satellites already on orbit validates this architecture.'
The O3b mPOWER system is designed to dynamically route bandwidth, focus beam power, and adjust capacity in real time to match shifting consumer demand. This technology enables people to access internet where they otherwise couldn't, including students in remote areas connecting online for schoolwork and physicians in small villages providing telehealth support.
Boeing's payload technology is also being used in military SATCOM programs, with a hardened version of the software-defined payload architecture being designed and built for the U.S. Space Force's Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS)-11 and WGS-12 systems, alongside Evolved Strategic SATCOM (ESS).
Boeing and SES will now prepare for the satellites' launch from the Florida Space Coast in September, with an expectation to enter service in mid-2027 following orbit raising and initialization activities.
