Boeing Completes First 737 MAX Landing Gear Exchange
Boeing has successfully completed its first landing gear exchange on a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft under the company's Landing Gear Exchange Program. The program, which was previously used for other Boeing aircraft types, allows operators to receive overhauled and certified assemblies ready for installation instead of carrying out a lengthy overhaul of removed landing gear.
The exchange model is based on a forward exchange principle, where the operator reserves an overhauled assembly in advance and installs it on the aircraft, while Boeing manages the overhaul of the returned landing gear. This approach can reduce downtime and limit capital investments needed for spare assemblies.
For the American Airlines exchange, Boeing supplied main and nose landing gear assemblies together with installation kits. Wheels, tires, and brakes were not included in the exchange.
The program aims to provide predictable, safe, and cost-effective outcomes for operators. Boeing plans to increase global landing gear overhaul capacity and work with certified MRO partners to expand the geographic availability of the program for the 737 MAX.
