Boeing Completes First 737 MAX Landing Gear Exchange with American Airlines
Boeing has successfully completed its first landing gear exchange for an American Airlines 737 MAX aircraft. This achievement marks a significant milestone in expanding Boeing's established Landing Gear Exchange Program to its latest-generation single-aisle aircraft.
The exchange, which took place on September 14, 2026, demonstrates Boeing's ability to provide fully overhauled and certified main and nose landing gear assemblies that are ready for installation. This approach is designed to reduce aircraft downtime while helping airlines avoid the cost and logistical burden of maintaining expensive spare landing gear.
Boeing's Landing Gear Exchange Program has traditionally offered operators an alternative to purchasing and storing complete spare landing gear assemblies. Instead, airlines can exchange their existing units for overhauled assemblies, allowing the aircraft to return to service more quickly while Boeing handles the overhaul and certification process.
