Boeing Contract Offer Rejected by Engineers and Technical Workers
Boeing engineers and technical workers have overwhelmingly rejected the company's four-year contract offer. According to the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), the union representing these workers, the proposed agreement was voted down by 64% for engineers and 72% for technicians.
The rejection is a significant blow to Boeing, which had touted its offer as the largest wage increase for SPEEA members in 40 years. However, many workers felt that the offer did not keep pace with inflation, particularly in the Seattle area where most SPEEA members work.
Ben Nimmergut, Boeing's vice president and functional chief engineer for production engineering, acknowledged the rejection and stated that the company would implement its strike contingency plan. This includes diverting funds from investment to prepare for a potential strike.
