Boeing Delay Sinks Dow Jones Industrial Average to Just Under 51,500
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed just under 51,500 on Friday after giving back most of its rally from Thursday. The losses were largely due to Boeing's decline, which was triggered by a delay in the certification of its 737 Max 10 aircraft by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The FAA announced on Monday that it would not certify the 737 Max 10 until it had assessed a newly flagged software issue. This news sent Boeing shares plummeting nearly 7% to their weakest level in 2026.
Nvidia's $150 billion buyback plan, which was announced last week, provided some support for the DJIA, with Nvidia rising 1.7%. However, the gains were not enough to offset the losses from Boeing, and the index closed lower by about two-thirds of its Thursday gain.
