Boeing Discovers Undisclosed Navigation Glitch in 737 MAX Aircraft
Boeing has identified a previously undisclosed software glitch in its 737 MAX aircraft that could cause an automated navigation feature to fail during landing. According to reports, the issue emerged from a cockpit software update and can occur when flight crews alter their planned flight path after a missed approach.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated it is aware of the potential issue and is working closely with Boeing and airlines to assess its safety implications. The agency has convened a Corrective Action Review Board to address the matter.
Southwest Airlines and United Airlines have requested that Boeing not deliver new 737 MAX aircraft equipped with the affected software, opting for an earlier version instead. It remains unclear how many aircraft are operating with the flawed software.
